Waltham Soldiers’ Union.
It having been voted at the soldiers’ caucus last Saturday evening that the meeting advertised to take place at Rumford Hall should be held at their room on Main street, that meeting accordingly took place last Wednesday evening. After the choice of officers pro tem.., the subject of forming a permanent organization was taken up, and the report of a committee previously appointed to draw up by-laws, etc., read and accepted. After some discussion it was agreed by all those present to take the responsibility of starting a club, and to rely upon the support of the returned soldiers of this place, no matter of what party, sect, or creed, to make it a success.
The doings of the association, when meetings are held, will not be intended for the benefit of outsiders; and a regular form of initiation was adopted. The committee desire to call upon all returned soldiers to respond with-out delay.
The expense is not great, and by a general co-operation the small amount paid in by each one may be made to serve a most beneficial end ; and the sums required will be subject to the inspection of all.
There will be another meeting for the transaction of business on next Thursday evening, at which all are requested to be present; and in the mean-time the room will be open without any restriction to any soldier.
