The poet John Greenleaf Whitter was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on December 17th, 1807. And lived there for 20 years.

He did some writing for the Haverhill Gazette.

HAVERHILL, Massachusetts, Jan. 4th 1897-

The grain elevator and hay sheds of J. O. Ellison & Co.have just been burned , entailing a loss of about $10,000. The fire was one of the hardest that, has occurred here for years. and the entire department was called out.

An old man, Peter Tremblay, and the family of his daughter. Mrs. Robideaux, were sleeping in the tenement, and were taken out by the police, almost suffocated by smoke.

The stock in the Ellison sheds and elevator will be a complete loss, and the buildings are practically destroyed.
