Fire in Great Barrington, Massachusetts 1897

GREAT BARRINGTON, Massachusetts.  Feb.4th 1897

The residence of Joseph C. Collins in Hartsville has just been burned. Mr. and Mrs. Collins went sleigh riding, and upon returning, half an hour later, discovered their house in flames.

The flames started in the attic, and all efforts to save the house were fruitless. The fire is supposed to have been caused by a defective chimney.

Loss about $15.000. including diamonds belonging to Mrs. Collins and valuable bric-a-brac; partially insured.

Mr. Collins had recently removed from New York to Hartsville and had an elegant country home.
